Whether you join us for a fun weekend trail ride or take on a more challenging 12-day horse riding adventure, beginners and experienced riders alike will relax and enjoy every moment with the Lovick family and their expert guides. Our horses have excellent temperaments and physical ability, and our meals are simply delicious. Key staff members have formal qualifications with the Association of Horse Safety and Education (AHSE) providing expert instruction and encouragement along the way.
Our Horses
Lovicks horses are willing, kind and surefooted, and will carry you safely over the rugged terrain of the Great Dividing Range.
Our horses aren’t just trail riding horses, they are smart bush horses and know their country as well as we do. We are experts in matching horse and rider, and will ensure you feel safe and supported throughout your horseback riding adventure.
Weekend Rides
Lovicks 2-day horse riding tours offer fun and excitement as we ride through the Howqua River region, exploring historic bridle tracks and riding through crystal clear river crossings.
Weekend Rides run from from October to May. You will stay overnight at The Hideout on the Howqua or Seeforth Station at Sheepyard Flat and enjoy simply delicious freshly cooked meals. Join us around the campfire for storytelling at its best and soak up the bush atmosphere. You can sleep inside or in a swag under the stars – the choice is yours. Non-riding family and friends can join us by 4WD. Suitable for riders of all abilities. $450pp
Camps for Kids
Our spring and summer school camps offer a unique educational opportunity. Students will learn about Australia’s iconic mountain cattlemen, pioneer history and the extraordinary high country environment on horseback, guided by genuine high country horsemen and women.
With a school camp program specially tailored to your required outcomes, students will gain a thorough grounding in horsemanship, gain confidence and develop new respect for the environment and each other. Lovicks horse riding school camp is an experience of a lifetime. $660pp
Cattle Drive
Our iconic Cattle Drive is a great way to combine the thrill of working with cattle with a horseback riding tour in the magnificent high country. These memories will last a lifetime.
You will experience the high country like never before as you take the cattle up to their summer grazing areas. The cattle travel along the lush and beautiful Howqua River Valley, while the river is still rushing with melted snow and the air is crisp and clear. As the cattle disperse in the Upper Jamieson River Valley (where they will spend the summer months) we ride on to see spectacular views across the Great Divide and High Plains beyond. It’s simply breathtaking. $1350pp
Great Divide Rides
Starting at Seeforth Station, you will ride across “Lovick country” travelling to the Great Divide for some of the most magnificent scenery you will ever see in Australia. This horse ride tour takes you through river valleys and rain forests to snow gum forests and views across the High Plains and beyond.
Bonnie Doon Dress Up Ride
As winter approaches we take our horses down from the high country to Bonnie Doon for a well deserved winter break.
This annual event is an absolute hoot as we all dress up and ride down the main street of Mansfield. We have one big party in town to end the horse riding season before continuing on to Bonnie Doon and letting the horses go. Join us for this happy and relaxed celebration. $350pp
The Man From Snowy River Ride
Hosted by Tom Burlinson, ride the Snowy River country and visit the spectacular locations made famous in the Man from Snowy River. This is your chance to ride alongside ‘The Man’ himself.
Tom Burlinson joins the Glenda and Charlie Lovick to take you for the ride of your life through the magnificent Snowy River country, including a visit to our most famous landmark, Craig’s Hut, built as a set for the movie. For five fantastic days on horseback, you will live the dream with Tom Burlinson, the Man from Snowy River, as well as Charlie Lovick, Master of Horse for the film and his amazing team. $2950pp
Ride the Rail Trail
New! New! New! We can’t wait to take you on this fantastic family-friendly 5-day, 150km horseback riding tour visiting all the places you’ve driven through, but never stopped to enjoy!
Join us on our inaugural Ride the Rail Trail horse ride from Merrijig to Tallarook. We’ll cross Lake Eildon via the Bonnie Doon rail bridge, stop at Yarck for fine food and a great pub. At Limestone we’ll ride through the rail tunnel and cross the Goulburn River at Molesworth. Yea is our halfway point and we’ll stay and dance the night away at Trawool Resort. Next morning enjoy the spectacular granite country and great views as we ride to Tallarook. Ride back the same way or arrange for a pick up. Your choice of a 2 or 5-day horse riding tour. Come along and be the first to experience easy cantering, great fun and fascinating country along the new Goulburn River High Country Rail Trail.
Bush Winery Ride
Come along on a ridgy didge, you beaut, bonza horse-riding trip. Join us on the 9th, if you can make it for a meet and greet, at the Merrijig Pub. (A genuine Bush Experience.)
Tuesday, ride from the Farm to the Dungeon Gully, ‘morning tea on “The Farmhouse” Verandah at “Uncle Claude and Auntie Kay’s.”
Late lunch at Kinloch winery, and camp out, at the bottom of the garden, in the Dungeon Gully.
Wednesday follow the range to the terrible descent scene from “The Man from Snowy River” and onto to Howqua and a late lunch at the Hideout. Relax on the beautiful banks of the Howqua in the afternoon with half hour massage and then gear up for a Black Tie Dinner in the tree house.
Thursday “Ride the Howqua River” following the Heritage Bridle Track to Seeforth Station (pioneered by the Lovick Family in 1860’s)

Finish the day at Seeforth Station for sendoff night, with Dennis Tucker, Mansfield’s famous, “one man band”.
Bus out the next day To Merrijig, stay the night.
Then take in the Mountain Cattlemen’s Get together Weekend with games, fun and music.
